Ukraine in trouble. Punishment for the former prime minister? The issue of Yulia Tymoshenko may have serious consequences for Ukraine's cooperation with the European Union. This is the conclusion of the Kiev press from the Tuesday meeting of Viktor Yanukovych with Bronisław Komorowski.
Kommersant notes that this was the first meeting of Viktor Yanukovych with the western leader after the arrest of Yulia Tymoshenko. The daily emphasizes that the Ukrainian side informed only that the new association agreement of Ukraine and the European Union was discussed, while representatives of the Polish authorities talked openly about the issue of the former prime minister, which was one of the main topics of the talks. In their opinion, it may threaten to sign or even initialise a new agreement.
Relying on his sources, "Kommersant" writes that European politicians are thinking about postponing this step. The contracting was to take place in December this year. The ruling Party of Regions, however, is not concerned about this. "Let Europe worry about what is happening in Europe," Volodymyr Weczerko told her.
"Komsomolska Truth" indirectly confirms this attitude of the Ukrainian authorities by quoting the words of the presidential expert Paweł Rudiakow. In his speech for the daily, he emphasizes that each of the presidents simply presented his point of view at Tuesday's meeting. "And everyone stayed with their own" - the expert adds.
